March Portrait Challenge

It all begins with an idea …

Guild Board members in charge of programming initiated a challenge to all Southern Connecticut Modern Quilt Guild Members during the December 2023 meeting - Create a Portrait Quilt

The portraits could be realistic or abstract. They could be self-portraits or portraits of family or friends - or even a picture of Fido or Fluffy - pet iguana? However, the size is limited to 18 inches by 18 inches.

Programming coordinator, Gail Berman, presented several examples of other artists that create portraits in fabric as inspiration - the most famous being Bisa Butler. She also discussed the techniques of Scott Culley, Freddy Moran, Alex Anderson and Margaret Bucklew.

Come check out the show on March 11, 2023 at the Weston Public Library, 56 Norfield Road, Weston, Connecticut (10:00-12:00) Better yet, make a portrait of yourself, attend the meeting and join our guild.

So guild members - get your fabric stash out and start cutting up those pieces to assemble a portrait, but don’t forget the fusible web to help stick down that cloth before sewing.
